Celebrating the Divine Architect Vishwakarma. Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated with enthusiasm all across India, it is a tribute to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and craftsman of the Gods known as the engineer of the universe, Vishwakarma is believed to have constructed the palaces, weapons, and Swarglok (heaven), Pushpak Viman (flying chariot). 

 

It is celebrated traditionally  on the last day of the Bengali month Bhadra (Kanya Sankranti), Vishwakarma Puja is an occasion to honor the divine figure who symbolizes craftsmanship, innovation, and the value of hard work. Devotees believe that by worshiping Lord Vishwakarma, they invoke his blessings for success, safety, and prosperity in their ventures. Machines, tools, and equipment in factories, workshops, and offices are cleaned, decorated, and worshiped as part of the ritual.

In the Hindu Mythology, Vishwakarma is regarded as the creator of all tools and instruments that have made life easier for humans for centuries. This day has been revered by people involved in instrumental work as an occasion to reflect on their profession and seek divine support for the improvement of their craftsmanship. 

 

In some regions, kites are flown to mark the occasion, symbolizing freedom, creativity, and the power of innovation. This is particularly common in states like Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, where kite flying adds to the festive atmosphere.

 A havan (fire ritual) is performed, and workers and artisans offer flowers, rice, and sweets to the deity. One of the most fascinating aspects of this celebration is the worship of the tools and machines used by craftsmen, engineers, and industrial workers. From heavy machinery in factories to simple household tools, everything is cleaned, decorated with flowers, and offered prayers.

In today’s world, Vishwakarma Puja holds even more significance as it celebrates innovation, technology, and skilled labor. Industries, factories, and corporate offices organize special prayers to invoke the blessings of Vishwakarma for growth and prosperity in their enterprises. It is also a day to reflect on the importance of work, the dignity of labor, and the central role that technology and craftsmanship play in shaping modern society.
