Too Early for S*x Education?

By Abhishek Haridasan

The masking of this word tells us a story. We’re always in two minds when it comes to s*x education, and we’re never too sure about bringing it out in the open in a peaceful manner.

S*x education isn’t something that needs to be hidden, yet we’re never too keen to serve it up to children, considering their naive ages. Yet, within the safeguarding approach lies a bigger issue.

S*x education and educators need a calm head above their shoulders to inform young minds about:

1. Good touch vs. Bad touch and being in control of their privates and body parts
2. S*xual hygiene is an important topic too, because s*xually transmitted diseases can be life-threatening
3. Informing the youth about consent in intercourse goes a long way in respecting boundaries and maintaining healthy relationships with their future partners
4. Sessions on female menstrual hygiene and the support system needed by women during this natural, yet testing time of the month must be taught to men and women respectively
5. Avoiding the feeling of ‘ick’ while teaching essential topics on s*x education makes it a free conversation with elders

For the youth who receive s*x education, they must be informed about not sniggering and resorting to hushed talk within themselves.

Of course, s*x educators must also ensure these topics are brought out in the open through charts, debates, discussions and focused media, to prevent young minds from learning it from illicit online content, ruining their minds for a lifetime.

While an entire adult performance industry, blossoms under the name of freedom to express, the performances shown are staged and do not represent the true experience of safe consummation.

Guides, tutors and s*x educators have their work cut out in the times of the internet, where the content around s*x education oscillates between ridiculous to resplendent.

It’s the task of a parent, teacher, or leader to ensure young minds are fed with the wisdom of safe s*x principles, avoid loose talk and always remember consent during sweet indulgences.

While people may have different beliefs around s*x education, the core remains simple: inform and advise young minds wisely and set them on the path to becoming empathetic partners and better individuals within our empowered societies.

Approach s*x education with TLC, and watch positivity spread within relationships and our lives.
