After meeting with the governor, Nitish Kumar steps down as chief minister of Bihar and could join the BJP-led NDA
On Sunday, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar received the resignation letter from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.Less than eighteen months after forming a new government in the state with support from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday.Nitish Kumar had a meeting with the governor at Raj Bhavan after the Janata Dal (United) MLSs convened at his home. The president of JDU is anticipated to declare his intention to lead a new government with backing from the Bharatiya Janata Party.According to news agency PTI, Nitish Kumar has been requested to serve as caretaker chief minister till a new administration is formed, and the governor has accepted his resignation. Nitish Kumar had senior officials with him.
In Bihar, where there are 40 members of the Lok Sabha overall, the BJP has the most MPs (17). Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) leads with sixteen, while another NDA partner, LJP, which is currently divided between Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag Paswan, uncle and nephew, has six.
There are 243 MLAs in the Bihar assembly, with the RJD having 79, the BJP having 78, the JD(U) having 45, the Congress having 19, the CPI (M-L) having 12, two of the CPI(M) and CPI, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) having four seats, the AIMIM having one, and one Independent representative.
