A lot of us would believe that chess is going through a watershed moment in India. The success of Praggnanadhaa, Gukesh, Humpy, Sachdev and the like is putting Indian chess players on the map and grandmastering events like none other.
If Vishwanathan Anand was a leader to emulate, the youngsters in India have dreams in their eyes and hope to bring laurels to the country. It’s also nice to see other sports get the limelight beyond cricket and tennis.
A random search of chess players in India gives you around 50 of them; all vying for a place in history, a position in the FIDE rankings, and hoping to bring back the golden generation of chess in India. Most importantly, these upcoming grandmasters are being coached by the best in the business, and the results are for everyone to see.
