Nikhil Kamath Shares Emotional Tribute to Nithin Kamath and Seema Patil: Overcoming Cancer and Brain Stroke
Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath has been awarded the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) 2024 for his groundbreaking work in transforming India’s stockbroking landscape with Zerodha’s low-margin, high-volume model. Kamath, who built the billion-dollar company without external funding, was praised for his entrepreneurial vision and dedication to innovation in the financial sector.
In a heartfelt tribute, his brother Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha and True Beacon, congratulated him on the achievement. Nikhil, expressing immense pride, also highlighted the personal challenges Nithin has overcome. On social media, Nikhil shared an emotional message, acknowledging their journey over the past year, which included the loss of their father, as well as Nithin’s battles with cancer and a brain stroke. He wrote, “For never complaining and always smiling, you deserve another kind of award altogether.”
Nithin Kamath will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo in June 2025. His recognition was part of a broader celebration of India’s entrepreneurial spirit, with EY recognizing the country’s most innovative and impactful business leaders.
Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, addressed the winners through a video message, emphasizing that the EOY award represents more than just recognition—it celebrates innovation and the transformation of ideas into industries. He encouraged entrepreneurs to continue driving India towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The EOY 2024 honorees collectively represent nearly INR 2 lakh crore in revenue and a combined valuation exceeding INR 15 lakh crore, with their businesses providing employment to approximately 3 lakh people globally. Rajiv Memani, Chairman and CEO of EY India, praised the winners as India’s competitive advantage and economic force multipliers, congratulating them for their industry-shaping achievements.
