Bhagyashree Singh, a passionate storyteller with a love for writing, reading, and movies, has brought her creative imagination to life through her book Wonder Tales of Young Hearts. With a flair for connecting emotions and weaving them into tales, she invites readers on a journey of inspiration and wonder. Her work reflects not only her storytelling skills but also her belief in the power of stories to touch young hearts and minds.
1. What inspired you to write Wonder Tales of Young Hearts?
Answer: I would say it’s my 5 year old daughter, to whom I tell bedtime stories. I always wanted her to feel safe while expressing her emotions, and kids while growing up do not understand how to handle their emotions. Even sometimes parents do not know how to react or respond to a kid when their behaviour changes. This led me to write about the emotions through which a kid goes through while growing up like love, will to explore, anger, fear and jealousy. These stories are based on these emotions and they will not only interesting for a kid, but also helpful for parents to understand the feelings of their young ones.
- How do your hobbies—writing, reading, and watching movies—shape your storytelling style?
Answer: I have been fond of reading since my childhood. That enhanced my thoughts, and vision. I believe there is a story everywhere, and if we observe the tiny little events that occur around us, then a story can be formed. I have been writing poems, and abstracts since my school days. I have written short articles for local news papers, and websites.
- Which story in your book do you feel most connected to, and why?
Answer: Though I feel each story has a special emotion and deep connection. But one story I think that’s close to me is the story of The Awesome Elli. This story is about Elli, a young elephant, how she overcomes her fear, and shows her ability to her peers who used to mock her. This story is about overcoming fear and believing in yourself, and while growing up every other kid goes through this kind of fear, and underestimates themselves. This story will help them to understand their fear and be confident in their own uniqueness.
4. What challenges did you face during the writing process, and how did you overcome them?
Answer: I didn’t face many challenges during the actual writing process—it was more of a personal target I had set for myself to complete and publish my first book. My focus was on keeping the stories simple, with language that children could easily understand, and pairing them with colorful illustrations to make the reading experience more engaging. The real challenge came after writing—finding the right publisher. Many publishing houses showed little interest once they realized the book was written for children rather than adults. However, with patience and persistence, I eventually found a publishing company that believed in the project and supported me throughout the entire journey.
5. What message or feeling do you want your readers to take away after reading your book?
Answer: Through Wonder Tales of Young Hearts, I want young readers to feel inspired, hopeful, and connected to the simple joys of life. Each story is written to spark imagination, encourage kindness, and remind children that even small acts of courage or compassion can make a big difference. My hope is that when they finish the book, they not only enjoy the stories but also carry with them a sense of warmth, positivity, and belief in themselves.
6. Do you have any plans for future books or projects that your readers can look forward to?
Answer: Yes, indeed! I’m currently working on another storybook for children, which is almost complete, and I hope to have it published soon. Alongside that, I am also writing a novel intended for grown-up readers. I plan to complete it by next year and I’m excited to share a different side of my storytelling with readers.”
