A Blanket Social Media Ban of Kids Under 13?
Can India take this monumental step to ensure peace of mind for our kids? Can the Government and associated bodies set an example for good social media behavior by ensuring young minds don’t fall prey to the bads of social media?
Most importantly, are millennial and GenZ parents ready to comply with this to keep their children’s sanity intact?
We’re in a world where everything is connected via VPN, Wi-Fi, cable line and mobile internet. What the heck, even you and I connecting needs some sort of internet and platform.
What Australia has done to social media in their country is an amazing move, while we wait for its results to come out. Is the murky world of social media bad for young minds? Perhaps! Will this ensure the end of comparison and keep children glued to better things?
The idea of keeping children away from social media is great. This will help divert their mind towards better things. Will there be loopholes to this law? Quite possible.
Can India take a strong step for the younger generation, without compromising on outputs? We sincerely hope so. A trial period where parents take away phones and the internet, while tech companies keep a tab of accounts online should help.
We just need to be sure about enforcement and compliance. Everything else will fall in place?
Long story short: India would love to have its young minds invested in creating the future. Social media can wait! Perhaps when they learn to use the internet better or pick up a different skill, the world will be served better!
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Optical fibres and speed of light can empower our internet connections. Before that, let’s teach our children to use tech wisely, without getting hypnotized by it.
We want a better future, we need to provide a safer future for our children. The Government is listening and we can make this opportunity count.
Stay safe, use the internet wisely, kids!
