Which is why, the quality of a person’s mental health is measured by how adaptively one can cope with everyday stressors.

In today’s ever changing world, Mankind is more focused on keeping their physical body healthy ; But tend to ignore the fitness of their mind. Yes, physical health is important. But taking care of mental health is equally important. Because, from childhood up to adulthood up to old age, the topic of Mental Health is inseparable. Day by day, the environment around us is becoming more mechanical than that of being natural. Without any freshness, the adults can be seen working like robots. Whereas, the children are occupied with video games and phones. Such activities have controlled their healthy lifestyle along with destroying the sweet human relationships. About 20-40 years ago ; Kids and elderly people used to gather on their own will and enjoyed each other’s company.

Unfortunately, time has changed. Even the craze for lifeless gadgets has increased more than it’s necessary. Work pressure, economic struggle, personal problems and emotional negligence has turned people half-dead. The growing distance between friends or family members has laid deep negative impacts both socially and psychologically. People are getting so self centered that they don’t even have time to place a call and ask, “Hey, how are you doing?” Well, the actual problem starts when people stop explaining the problems. They start considering that even if their problems are shared, others will take it as ‘Burden’. Even if they are determined to open up in front of therapists / life coaches, they carry the fear of being judged. As a consequence, the sufferers tend to suppress their problems for years leading to incidents like suicide, bipolar disorder and heinous crimes.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a sharp rise in the number of people experiencing mental illness in recent years; Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. In a developing country like India, people take mental health as a joke which is quite unacceptable. Society needs to understand that addressing mental health issues is far more important than that of personal or professional goals. Society needs to understand that it is okay to not be okay. Talking to someone we fully trust can make a big difference. Even getting engaged in activities we enjoy can make a big difference too. Always remember that seeking support is a sign of strength. Choose to smile, because your life is precious.
