Social Media Discussions: Closing the Loop or Widening the Gap?
Social media is for everyone, yet it seems so distant from reality. The screen between us and millions across the world gives it a utopian feel and primed it to be a lever for growth. However, the optics end here.
Sticking the freedom: It’s a platform that is free to use (where you are the product), yet there’s a constant urge to contribute and you become a commodity being sold other commodities, to never miss out and stay extremely trendy. There’s a discussion of being free-to-contribute yet there are judgments passed on every activity included on your feed.
Free to write and record: Till the time you add value and comply with free speech guidelines, you are influencing people in the right manner, however, a slight pivot from the original plan and you might find yourself on the other side of the ledge and reprimanded by the lawmakers. There’s a thin balance between intruding and influencing, say millions with fast-speed data and an opportunity to flood the comments section.
Free to Feed Off Wisdom: Quotes, long reels, videos, podcasts and long-form content that inspires millions, caters to the attention spans of many and receives smirks from those who use social media for connections only. There’s a weird, no-guidelines policy that everyone has taken to, and one wonders if the early makers never dived deeper to mitigate possible concerns. Were all of us worshipping the reactions and paying no heed to proactive measures?
Freedom to lift a generation: There are case studies where social media lifted thousands with serious talent away from discouraging allies and introduced the world to their talents. It’s this 1 per cent that makes us believe in the power and persistence of utilizing social media wisely, yet we collectively falter when it comes to ground rules, checks and regulation parameters. Perhaps, our next technology advancements must consider the above before becoming mainstream.
Freedom to choose: There’s a widening gap between doves of brilliance and depths of ignorance. It’s this valley of vitriol that we must choose to address through simple and subtle means, i.e. pull ourselves to be in the correct frame of mind, spray away the pests that infiltrate our online lives with devious plans, and arrive at a consensus on frameworks and boundaries that keep our sanity in check.
Has social media hit its peaks and witnessed a crescendo or have we just scratched the surface? Will the advent and subsequent maturity of AI give social media a fillup or turn the gap of despair into a gorge?
Will the awoken individuals balance out the woke culture and demand more attention be given to ideas, innovation, and civilized entertainment and become a platform to connect and construct a better future for anyone, where real life and screen life thrive and can be melodiously distinguished?
Humanity waits for the next move, where technology, processes, and minds unite to harness infinite possibilities! Ready for the best that is ahead of us!
