Poetess Promila Devi gets selected for US Poetess League

Heartfelt congratulations to Poetess Promila Devi Sutharsan Huidrom on being selected by The US Poetess League and receiving one of the most prestigious awards for her remarkable contribution to Hindi poetry and the representation of her rich cultural heritage. This is a proud moment not just for her, but for the entire literary and cultural community. Her voice has become a bridge between Manipuri culture and the global stage, reminding us of the power of words rooted in tradition and soul. We celebrate her brilliance, dedication, and the beauty she brings to the world through her poetry.

 

  1. What inspired you to begin your journey as a poetess, and how did your early experiences shape your voice in Hindi poetry?

      Ans: My first fully fledged poetry was written when I was 15 yrs old, before that I did wrote but it was in school. Hindi comes automatically to me as I am a product of KV (Kendriya Vidyalaya) Southern Command, Pune, and Hindi there was taught by professionals with great zeal. All my literature capabilities credit goes to my Mother, Hindi and Sanskrit Teachers. My mother also writes but never took it professionally due to family challenges. They all are and were really inspiring.

2.Can you share how Manipuri culture influences your writing and what aspects of it you most love to highlight in your poems?

Ans:Being born by a Meitei Manipuri parents, I always am in touch with my culture although I have hardly been in Manipur. My mother always kept me grounded and told me history of Manipur and it’s heritage. I am brought up hearing folklores of Manipur by my mother and have always been keen to learn more and more about Manipur. Manipur is in my blood and Lineage. It reflects in my personality and writings and thus my poetry too.

3.What was your first reaction upon hearing that you were selected by The US Poetess League for such a prestigious recognition?

Ans :I still feel I am just an ordinary Poetess working my deal with my writings and life. And upon hearing this recognition made me delighted and overjoyed out of happiness. It really means a lot to me. Although I write for my passion yet such recognitions make you feel to the elated feelings and make worth your writings.

4.In a world becoming increasingly digital, how do you think poetry can still connect people across cultures and continents?

Ans:Poetries would now survive only if it’s genuine and heart touching intelligently written. Otherwise Poetries is life, words, feeling, happiness and moreover joy of emotions. How can it disappear, how can human feelings be lost. Poetries will remain but good poetries will definitely be immortal. It connects souls inspite of boundaries and languages and cultures. As love has no boundaries and differences. Poetry is love, poetry is life.

5.What message would you like to give to young writers, especially from North Eastern India, who wish to preserve and promote their culture through literature?

Ans :Keep up the good work, it may be challenging in the first instance but go for it. Live your life, your dreams, your writings. Do not stop as words remains and are mightier than might. 

Write for a reason, let that reason be love atleast –
