- Dr. Roy, how do you perceive the role of teachers in shaping the holistic development of students beyond academic excellence?
Ans. Of course, a teacher has a upper hand in academic excellence of students, but what is more important for teachers is to develop the personality of students in totality. We find the example in our upanishad. When a teacher or Guru used to teach their students under the tree in Gurukuls, where they intended in holistic development of student. Even today, teaching the academic portion of syllabus is not the end, furthermore a teacher, identifies the talents, and inctination of student, in co-curricular or extra curricular activities and shape them accordingly. A teacher inspires a student to dream big, set its goal and strive to achieve it.
- In today’s fast-paced digital era, how can teachers adapt their methods to effectively engage and empower students?
Ans. Yes, with change in time, and with fast paced digital era, teaching methods have changed. We all know due to Corona epidemic, online method of teaching has become so popular and this virtual mode is also used today world wide the teacher. Now the teacher are also using, library resources, educational videos, apps like SWAYAM, e-pathshala, interactive contents and many educational aids. All these methods will definitely engage and empower students.
- As an advocate for personalised learning, could you share strategies for tailoring education to individual student needs within a classroom setting?
Ans. I personally prepare a Rubrics of each student in my class, which helps me to get a clear picture of their weakness as well as strength. Then accordingly, me being an English Teacher and my students come from a rural background who generally do not have greater exposure to English. Hence, I prefer to adopt LSRW method as now I have a clear concept about the interest, abilities and needs of the students.
- With increasing emphasis on STEM education, how can educators ensure a well-rounded approach that nurtures creativity and critical thinking alongside technical skills?
Ans. Today’s educators have to be very alert, that they are imparting all round development to the students i.e. which includes creativity, critical thinking and technical skills. That’s why perhaps today’s education stresses on project based, interactive mode of education, group discussions and activity based ways of teaching. I personally, implement, projects making, educational tours. The students are made to write articles and get them published. I have also introduced new concept in project making i.e. Museum project in English literature which is based on unexplored facts of the writers and authors.
- How can teachers foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that nurtures diverse talents and backgrounds?
Ans. It is utmost need that in a classroom, an educator, not only recognize individual talent and background of each students, but find ways to enhance them. This can be done with the help of inclusion of activities like – role play, elocutions, debates, paper reading, seminar presentations, etc. The topics of the above activities can be based on syllabus of the particular class. We have also started mentor mentee programmes, Where the senior students go and teach in the lower classes. Consultancy services is also done by students. All these activities definitely nurture talent.
- In your experience, what are the most rewarding aspects of being a teacher, and how do these moments fuel your dedication to the profession amidst challenges?
Ans. I always wanted to be a teacher and luckily I started as a teacher in Higher Secondary School and now I am a Professor in Government P.G. College. Really I find myself to be fortunate and its a bliss. Not only it does make a difference in students life, by imparting knowledge as it is said, “Vidhya Daan is Maha Daan”. What most excites me is the immense respect that we get from students. I come from Chhattisgarh, and in my college, the students address me not as madam, but as ‘Maa’. What can I ask for? My students may have left the institution for higher studies or job, but they are still connected and never forget to pay due respect. All these definitely fuel your dedication, apart from challenges.
