Abyss of Darkness – An Insight on The Ongoing Processes of RG Kar Case

The R G Kar case which happened in Kolkata just a year back, has sent chills down the spine of people already, with its maliciously evil way of execution of a gendered crime. The peak of corruption in any state, or institution leads to a brutal crime. A doctor is not safe in her own workspace, which has to be the last thing possible in the state. During the span of the entire last year, with the inclusion of protests during the Durga Puja and artistic protests as well, people have raised their voice in rage against the deplorable violence.
Amid nationwide protests against the heinous crime, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud heard a Suo moto case with regards to the very same incident. On 20th January 2025, Bangla Pakkho activists were protesting near Sealdah court on Monday, post the adjourned proceedings till 2:45 pm in the afternoon, approximately. In the Sealdah courtroom, the public prosecutor argued that death penalty should be reserved for cases where there is a lack of scope for reform. The court pronounced the quantum of punishment on 20th January 2025 itself. Till date, the court verdict remains the same and the accused is of the opinion that he has been framed wrongly. As per the cbi, the case is not that of gang rape but a conspiracy by the higher authorities of the hospital.
