Music and Gen-z By Riddhima Sen
Music has been an integral part of humanity since the dawn of civilization. Music fandoms have even existed in the 1900s, be it the Beatles or the legendary Elvis Presley. Till date, it is not only English pop songs which are famous, but indie pop songs and Japanese pop and Korean pop songs have garnered massive fandom over the years. In the current timeline, BTS is the largest boy band with a massive fandom spanning countries and international borders. Each and every generation has its own music taste, be it the initial craze of jazz in Europe during the early half of the nineteenth century.
With the increase in young individuals suffering from Attention Deficit Hypertension Disorder (ADHD), individuals listen to music to hit a monotone either while working or studying. Personally, now that my semester examinations are gradually approaching, my way out of a boring schedule is listening to songs on Spotify. A warm cup of coffee, a playlist and a book open in front of my eyes – that’s a necessity during exam season. With a decreasing attention span, music helps one to stay focused, easily while there are distractions everywhere. Adhd is common in a time plagued with digital distractions.
