Women empowerment – What does it mean ? By Riddhima Sen

Women empowerment is a term which refers to the phenomenon in which women are given more power. Power, in this context, also includes agency. Agency is the power to take decisions for oneself and have absolute control over one’s life. Women empowerment isn’t always necessarily linked to feminism and mainly the Suffragate Movement as well. When a woman has the freedom and independence to step out of her home when needed, work at a safe and sound environment, and can even work on night shifts at hospitals and MNCs too as a matter of fact, that will be the real definition of women empowerment. Worshipping female deities where women in general are mistreated and objectified to a great extent won’t indeed add any value of significance to the social scenario. With the recent R G Kar incident which took place in Kolkata, it’s high time to reschedule patriarchy and pave the way for a equal society.
