Alakshmi – The Goddess we need

By Saptak Dutta

The title might be intriguing for many of you. Undoubtedly, we are terrified of Alakshmi who is supposed to be taking away all good things from our home – money, peace and prosperity. We have been taught to ask for Lakshmi’s blessings and benevolence to find ourselves in happiness, but do you think it is time we should be looking for happiness or fun? Festivals or carnivals? Balloons and colours? Tea junctions or ice-cream parlours?

No.

I say, no!

Just like a sister of mine said – just like hundreds of sisters of my country screamed with their lungs getting sore, when the monsters came to attack with dirty fangs and nails of mouth-watering lust and ate them as if they’re some pile of meat. And what did I get to see the next day? What do I get to watch every time I have turned on my TV or scrolled through Instagram since that day? Leftovers. Naked leftovers of my sister that are being used to rationalize political power tussle, launching a new court room drama, and what not – in the name of justice, of course. To be honest, I do not think of happiness these days. Or carnivals. Or ice-cream parlours anymore. My Lakshmi left us forever. She isn’t coming back.

But the monsters are still there. Unnoticed. Unpunished. Maybe they are still watching my sister’s leftovers to tickle their inhumanity, to satisfy their evil hunger and planning for their next hunt. And I can’t stop them by myself, you know. Because I’m too civilized. Or too paralyzed maybe. There’s not much difference anyway. I have a pistol and I have a few bullets, but the only thing I have ever learned to operate is a remote to change the channel on the TV or mostly light a candle in the loving memory of my sister. Is that enough?

No. Today, I say no!

Today I am going to perform some voodoo, and welcome some demonic power to equip my sisters with it. I wish to awaken the Kraken inside them to bring down the ships of injustice and mockery, to find every last one responsible for the torture and murder and make them pay for what they did – and then rise like a Phoenix from the ashes of tomorrow and claim their own rights the way they should have a long time ago. From me. From you. The government. Everyone must think how to keep the monsters away this time. And act upon it for the sake of our sisters, for the sake of their security. We are neck deep in corruption, we have become too crippled and crumbled over time in selfishness that we fail to see no one is safe until everyone is.

Oh, and if any of you monsters are keeping a tab, let me tell you this. Alakshmi is here. And I have given her my pistol and my bullets. My hands might shake but not hers. She never misses her mark even from miles away. So, next time you unzip with any other intentions but to urinate, you know where the bullet’s going! Vengeance awaits you. All of you.
