Verbal and Emotional Abuse – By Riddhima Sen
Verbal abuse refers to abuse using words. Emotional abuse also refers to a form of abuse which hurts an individual emotionally. Verbal and emotional abuse is part and parcel of marriage too, at times. Husbands can cuss at their wives at each and every little thing. There are men who support their wives too, for sure. However, in a traditionally patriarchal setup, this is quite common as well. But these things are oftentimes ignored. Under the guise of normal quarrels and normal interactions, such heinous crimes are hidden away from the eyes of people.
Such incidents are a common tale known in each and every household. Indian households are infested with morals and gender stereotypes. These stereotypes are an ingrained part of our psyche and existence. Consciously or unconsciously, people often end up behaving in a bad manner. When it is intentional and not coincidental, issues which were never thought about before start to surface up, towards the upper limits of the rivers and the seas. Verbal abuse is underrated and ignored, under the cruel and heartless guise of jokes. Humiliating a woman , despite her toiling the entire day in the kitchen , is entirely emotional abuse and nothing short of it .
