1.You have written more than ten books focused on faith and walking with Jesus. What first inspired you to begin writing as a Christian author?

Answer: By the time I reached this point, I had at least six books written and published. I was also very active and committed to my church. I still remember having this desire to want to write for God. There was nothing specific but just doing it for Him. And I remember confessing it as I stood in my apartment. It is also what I put on the back of the first book (Marred Clay). When you would normally get an overview on the back of a book, it was simply me telling God, “I did this for You.”

2. Release The Chains (RTC) was written and published in just 30 days. Can you take us through that experience and what it meant to you spiritually?

Answer: Mind-boggling. It was so abnormal that originally, I had not realized that it all happened in a span of 30 days or less. It wasn’t until God was revealing my disobedience that I was able to see it. I was sitting on the book because I was taking my time to proofread it and ensure it was clean. But God was showing something totally different. The time is now! And once I realized that I had to get this book out, I started going through my notes and seeing that it had been less than 30 days since I started writing it. And during that time, I had a battle with my health that put me in the hospital for a couple of days. This played a part in why I didn’t realize how fast the book was written. I knew right away that it was God guiding me to fulfill His purpose. It took my appreciation for how God uses us to another level.

3. You’ve said this book’s creation was entirely guided by God. How did your faith shape the writing process during that intense period?

Answer: It was a flow. I had total faith that Holy Spirit would show me what was needed for the writing. One of the reasons being that this was not the first time that God had called on me to do such a work. For this book, a good friend of mine reached out to me and informed me that God had given her the title of my next book. The only thing is that it happened once before, when she informed me about the seventh book I would write for God, “By Invitation Only.” So, when she told me about Release The Chains, she not only gave me the title but she also gave me the book’s cover. God was direct in what He wanted. No wasting time, even when it came to the cover. And as a result, I had total faith in what was being revealed.

4. What core message do you hope readers take away after reading Release The Chains?

Answer: God wants us to be free because God wants us to come home. One of the things He showed me as Holy Spirit continued to enlighten me was that we were never created with anything holding us down. We were actually given free range as He sent man out to be productive and replenish the earth. It was even man that named God’s animals. I don’t see that as limitations. It wasn’t until we found the knowledge of how to be evil that we began chaining ourselves in this experience called life. Now, we must return to our freedom and release the chains.

5. In today’s fast-paced world, why do you think messages about spiritual freedom are more important than ever?

Answer: Because the faster things get, the easier we get distracted. Just look at us. We live on our phones. You never have to leave your house and you can talk to a thousand people or more, thanks to social media. Amazing technology, and it is not evil but it can easily be a distraction. And when we get distracted from God, what do we have left? Distractions were a problem 2,000 years ago. It’s one of the key reasons we fast. If we get dependent on the things of this world, then we risk never hearing from God. Our God who has always wanted to communicate with us. He did it with the first man. Adam could be just taking a walk, and God would suddenly appear and talk with His creation. That’s incredible. We should all want a relationship like that with the very One that makes all of this possible.

6.How do your personal hobbies—like cooking, fishing, and sports—help you maintain balance in your faith and creative life?

Answer: Because I exercise both sides of my being. Similar to Jesus who was fully man and fully God as He walked the earth, we too have a flesh and a spirit. When I am able to write for God and lift Him higher, I am welcoming Him in and nurturing my spirit. When I choose an activity that brings forth personal enjoyment, like preparing a meal or rooting for my team, I am exercising the mortal being that I was made to be. A mortal being that socializes and interacts with the world. And by exercising both parts of me, I not only maintain balance but I strengthen myself as a vessel of God. Because now I can relate with others that may not spend as much time nurturing their spirit. And as a result, play a part in helping them grow in God.

7. What advice would you give to aspiring faith-based writers who feel called to write but struggle with doubt or timing?

Answer: It’s something that God kept showing me as I wrote this latest book, a sound mind. It’s what He gave us when He made us. This means even when we question ourselves, we can address that false accusation and respond with what God says about us. Because writing this book made it clear about what it meant to consume the knowledge of evil. It didn’t make me and you bad people. It simply meant we now knew how to do things in an ungodly way. We have the knowledge. It doesn’t mean we have to accept it. We can actually utilize our God-given strength and rebuke it. This includes when those thoughts of negativity show their ugly heads. That’s just a thought. And it’s a negative one. But it’s not you. It can’t manifest itself, unless we believe it.

I choose to believe what God made clear over 2,000 years ago. I’m more than a conqueror. And that isn’t cliché. It’s how God designed us, when He made us in His image. “More than” means we will exceed just being victorious. And when it comes to timing, trust and believe that God’s timing will always prevail. So, regardless of what it looks like right now, He knows when it is time. He just needs us to remain faithful to see it through. My life of writings is a testament to this truth. My first book for God took years to be completed and eventually got published, while this book only needed 30 days. Same God, same writer, but with greater spiritual maturity. God is waiting on us to step out on faith. Just like the disciple walking on water. God didn’t change the water. Peter changed his faith. Jesus gave him one word to move forward in faith and that’s all it took. Just go for it.
