ED raids many sites connected to Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali
According to ANI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched several locations in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, on Thursday morning that were connected to suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Sheikh Shahjahan.According to India Today, the ED raided Sheikh Shahjahan’s brick kiln in Sandeshkhali, in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. According to the article, the raids were carried out in relation to a land grab case brought against Sheikh Shahjahan.
The West Bengal Police detained Sheikh Shahjahan early on February 29 after he was accused of rape and stealing land in Sandeshkhali village.On March 6, in the middle of a heated political dispute, he was turned over to the CBI under the instructions of the Calcutta High Court.Since January 5, when ED officers arrived to search the home of Shahjahan, a close aide to former minister Jyoti Priya Mallick who was arrested in October of last year in connection with an alleged ration distribution scam, the island village of Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district has been under intense scrutiny. Three officers were hurt as an enraged mob attacked the ED team.
