Exclusive Talk with Author Promila Devi on “VOTING AN ENTITLEMENT OR NECESSITY “

We are in the season of Voting in India now. The Elections are a democratic process which helps the nation to elect their leaders. However the voting turnouts in a Democratic country like India are massive at times. A lot of people vote as a duty , some vote as necessary and some citizens skip voting as they feel it won’t affect their or the country’s situation in any way.

Let us talk to Renowned Author Promila Devi Sutharsan Huidrom who is also actively known for her social work and her keen interest towards the environment , her country and the people’s social wellbeing.

Q1) Welcome to the special Voting Exclusive Interview. We are so glad to have you here. When we came to know about your concern and work about the Manipur violence and representing the issue , we instantly had a thought to go ahead with the Interview Section with you. Tell us what comes in your mind when you first listen to the word “Voting “

Ans : The moment I hear voting, I presume, my ideology reflecting in my choice of government. It is very important that we choose the vote for the person who is from the party or ideology of what one thinks is the best for the Nation or one’s State (or Province).

Q2)There are still people who, even though they stay in very proximity with the polling booth, fail to go to the booth and cast their votes. What is the reason you think for this voter turnout ?

Ans : I feel it’s mere ignorance, carelessness for the Nation or people, or not realising the “Power” of one’s choice or “Vote”.

A “Leader” can win or lose by just one vote and that Vote could be ours.

Q3) As authors , because the words of Authors reach the fastest to the people, what are the basic reasons for which a person should consider voting , according to you ?

Ans : When we have rights in a society, we do have some responsibilities too. Rights and Responsibility goes hand in hand. So, if we assume that we need a great leader, then we have to know that it is possible only when we vote. Voting for the right person is the future to our society, and we all have to know to realise it sooner the better.

Q4) How far do you feel the regional or state Government holds the power . Do you feel the Central Government is directly responsible for governance or state Government holds power too?

Ans : Both go hand in hand. If the state prosper, it leads to the Nation’s prosperity. The policies made in the Central Government affects nationwide. We have our Administrators doing well in their respective work, thanks to the rigorous procedure of selecting the best candidates. We need a lot of change in the old policies too which are carried from the British Era. A lot has been done and a lot needs to be done, our current Government has done a great job and is doing commendable work and I hope Bharat/ India has a bright upcoming future.

Q5)You have experienced both the Ballot Paper system of casting vote and EVM which do you think is the best and why ?

Ans : EVM is a better option as it’s electronic and it is better to keep track of the votes.

Q6) If there should be a thought you can share on what criterions  people should look before voting , what should it be ?

Ans : It is very important that a leader one is choosing should belong to a party which is congruent to one’s ideology.

The ideology should serve the prosperity of the Nation as an entity and for the People. It is very important to see the previous work done by the party and the future Manifesto. Accordingly, we know what are the past activities the party had promised and has been made and what are the future propositions.

Q7) Finally we are all aware of how beautiful poems you write. Can you write something on the topic of Voting.

Ans :
