Rape is one of the most heinous crimes to exist. In India, rape cases are reported on a regular basis. The recent case of a survivor’s house getting grazed to the ground, because of her refusal to take back the fir. News of perpetrators getting free easily is the most agitating thing ever. The rape laws in India have changed drastically. However, in 2025 there are no laws for marital rape in India. Marital rape is not even considered to be a crime, legally. Under the reason being the breach of privacy, such a heinous crime is kept concealed and hidden.
Lawyers are of varying perspectives regarding this particular social issue. The lookout towards social issues is taken in a light manner in India. The issue of domestic violence is like an umbrella term for all kinds of abuse and violence that a woman has to go through, while maintaining the sanctity of her marital relationship. Women are going through issues, just as men are. The case of Johnny Depp is known worldwide. But, in comparison to this, women have been going through such troubles for a long time. Whenever a woman stands up for herself, the society criticizes her harshly.
