Stranded in Space, Finally Free!
Author Abhishek Haridasan on Astro Science Digital Emporium
It’s been a whirlwind and excruciating painful wait for the Crew-9 astronauts who were stranded for 9 months in space. While all astronauts are safe and will be under a 45-day rehabilitation program, a billion eyes or more were on Sunita Williams, who was part of a routine expedition in June 2024, which should have lasted a few weeks, but took up nine prime months of their lives.
Sunita Williams, an astronaut of American-Indian origin, along with the others, showed great resilience and resolve to stay unfazed as they finally received news of touching down on Earth earlier this week.
The world waited with bated breath in the wee hours of the day, as the SpaceX Dragon capsule titled Freedom re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere, deployed its parachutes and splashed around the Gulf of Mexico, bringing an end to a testing ordeal for Sunita and her fellow astronauts.
They were lauded with loud cheers as the astronauts were wheeled away to the medical staff who will be putting them into observation over the next few months.
Excessive exposure to space can lead to reduced bone density, pressure on the heart and many other complications, and hence Sunita and her team will be subjected to multiple tests to ensure they can acclimatise to Earth’s environment.
In India, the USA and other countries, Sunita is considered a hero of sorts for staying calm while her home was tens of thousands of kilometres away within the cosmos.
We wish and pray for the speedy recovery of Sunita Williams and her team, and salute his spirit of fighting till the end and becoming a role model for billions.
This ordeal of courage, exemplary resolve and love for space exploration will catapult the already-famous Sunita Williams to new heights. Thank you for allowing us to believe in our capabilities and living the adage that: Nothing is impossible if we believe!
Take care, Sunita. The world would love to hear more about this special journey to space! Respect and admiration for me and the entire human space.
From Space to Mother Earth, Finally, Freedom has been Experienced!
